Cricket Wireless LLC is a prepaid wireless service provider in the United States, a wholly owned subsidiary of AT & amp; T Inc. Cricket Wireless offers voice, text, and mobile data using the national network of AT & amp; T. Cricket Wireless was founded in 1999 by Leap Wireless International, Inc. On July 12, 2013, AT & amp; T Inc. agreed to acquire holding company Cricket Leap Wireless International for $ 1.2 billion. The merger was approved by the Federal Communications Commission on March 13, 2014, and later on the same day, Leap Wireless announced the completion of the acquisition by AT & amp; T.

Cricket's first market was Chattanooga, Tenn., In 1999 and through much of the early growth known as a network focused on a small rural market.

On September 4, 2007, competitor MetroPCS announced a $ 5.3 billion bid to join Leap Wireless. The leap informally declined the offer less than two weeks later. MetroPCS officially withdrew the offer less than two months later, on November 1, 2007.

On September 17, 2007, Cricket launched its Wireless Broadband Service using EV-DO.

On December 12, 2007, Cricket agreed to acquire the wireless telecommunications business Hargray Communications Group.

On April 8, 2008, Cricket was launched in Oklahoma City.

On September 29, 2008, Cricket announced that it had signed a 10-year exploration agreement with MetroPCS covering both the company's existing and future markets. The company also signed a spectrum exchange agreement covering licenses in certain markets and on November 13, 2008, Cricket launched "Premium Coverage Range", a roaming partnership with 14 wireless companies. In February 2009, Cricket was launched in Chicago.

On March 10, 2009, Cricket was launched in the Philadelphia market, including eastern Pennsylvania, South Jersey and Delaware.

On June 23, 2009, Cricket was launched on the markets of Washington, DC, and Baltimore.

On September 28, 2009, Cricket changed its domain name to "mycricket.com".

On April 13, 2010, Cricket launched the Cricket Navigator, a GPS app that offers turn-by-turn, search and hyper-local map navigation.

In August 2010, Cricket and Sprint signed a five-year wholesale deal (MVNO) that allowed Cricket to utilize Sprint's national EVDO 3G network in the US.

On August 12, 2010, Cricket was the launcher operator for the inexpensive Kyocera Rio touch phone.

On May 31, 2012, Cricket announced the availability of iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S on its network.

On September 5, 2012, the electronics retailer RadioShack in partnership with Leap launched RadioShack Without Contract Wireless , this service is supported by Cricket.

On October 21, 2012, Cricket stopped his daily plans.

On July 12, 2013, AT & amp; T Inc. agreed to buy Cricket Wireless parents for $ 1.2 billion and on March 13, 2014, the Federal Communications Commission approved the acquisition of AT & amp; T and Leap Wireless.

On September 24, 2015, Cricket Wireless launched Apple iPhone 6s and 6s Plus variants of their smartphones. The advantages of Cricket Wireless are their Cricket Protect insurance plans that include users from physical damage, water damage, loss, and theft.

Network coverage

Before being acquired by AT & amp; T, the CDMA Cricket network uses home networking and roaming agreements with Sprint, among other CDMA operators. However, the Cricket CDMA network is closed and the spectrum is smoothed for use on HSPA and LTE networks AT & amp;

Former CDMA network service

Cricket Wireless noted on their old website that the CDMA service will be discontinued in early September 2015. Most devices before the merger will not be compatible on GSM networks except iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, and iPhone 5s. A compatible iPhone device will only require a new SIM card, which is available for $ 9.99 in every Wireless Cricket store or through Customer Service.
