RV Kilo Moana (T-AGOR-26) is a small research vessel oceanic oceanographic research vessel (SWATH) owned by the US Navy and operated by the University of Hawaii as part of the fleet of the University's National Oceanographic System (UNOLS). It is designed to operate in coastal areas and blue waters. The unique SWATH hull form provides a comfortable and stable platform in high sea conditions.
In January 2012 Kilo Moana started taking water from a baseball-sized hole in his stomach. The crew members along with the Coast Guard of the United States can temporarily block a hole and pump out the flood room. He returned to his base in Honolulu safely and entered the emergency drydock to repair the damaged stomach.
