Samsung Galaxy Note 5 vs Note 4: What's Changed? - SlashGear
src: c.slashgear.com

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is an Android phablet smartphone developed and manufactured by Samsung Electronics. Inaugurated on August 13, 2015, this is the successor to the Galaxy Note 4 as part of the Samsung Galaxy Note series.

Galaxy Note 5 brings more than the hardware and software features of the Galaxy S6, including a refreshed design with glass support, enhanced camera, and fingerprint scanner. The device also includes built-in livestreaming functions as well as features intended for use with bundled, bundled stylus devices. This device was released along with Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.

The device received positive reviews from critics, who praised the improved manufacturing quality of previous models, along with performance improvements, cameras, and other changes. Similarly for S6, Samsung was criticized for making the Galaxy Note 5 battery unbreakable, and eliminating the ability to expand its storage via microSD. It is said that this change has the potential to alienate power users - especially since the Galaxy Note series is historically oriented towards this overall market segment.

The Galaxy Note 5 was briefly succeeded by the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, released in September 2016. However, the device was eventually withdrawn and withdrawn from the market after repeated incidents where the battery overheated and burned. The Note 7 that was discontinued was then relaunched as a Galaxy Note Fan Edition in July 2017.

Specifications

Hardware

Galaxy Note 5 adopts a design and construction similar to the Galaxy S6, featuring a unibody metal frame and glass support, though unlike the standard S6, the back of the device is curved. It is offered in dark blue, white, gold, and silver. Storage slot for Pen S Pen uses a spring mechanism to remove the pen.

Galaxy Note 5 has a 3000mAh lithium-ion battery that can not be removed and supports the standard open Qi interface.

Note 5 features a 5.7-inch 1440p Super AMOLED. It is powered by 64-bit Exynos 7 Octa 7420 system-on-chip, consisting of four 2.1Ã, GHz Cortex-A57 cores, and four 1.5à ¢, GHz Cortex-A53 cores, and 4 GB LPDDR4 RAM. Galaxy Note 5 is available with 32Ã,® GB or 64Ã, GB storage (exclusive "Winter Edition" exclusive for South Korea offering 128 × GB storage), and uses 3020 mAh battery with fast and wireless charging support. Similarly for S6, Note 5 does not offer expandable storage or the ability to remove the battery, unlike its predecessor. Like S6, the fingerprint scanner on the home button now uses touch-based scanning mechanism instead of friction-based, and it also supports Samsung Pay. The 16 megapixel rear-facing camera is identical to the Galaxy S6, with f/1.9 aperture, optical image stabilization, autofocus object tracking, and real-time HDR.

Software

Galaxy Note 5 shipped with Android Lollipop. The new "Screen off memo" feature allows the phone to be woken directly to the note screen when the stylus is removed. The Camera app on Note 5 also allows private and public livestreaming directly to YouTube, and supports the export of RAW images.

In February 2016, Samsung began releasing Marshmallow for the Galaxy Note 5.

Galaxy Note 5 also gradually received Nougat (Android 7.0) update with TouchWiz Grace UX during the first and second quarters of 2017.

European release

The Galaxy Note 5 is not released in Europe, supporting solely marketing S6 Edge in the region. Vice President of Brand and Marketing Samsung Europe Rory O'Neill explained that the decision was based on market research showing that consumers in the region are primarily looking at large-screen phones as entertainment-oriented, rather than productivity.

Reception

The Verge completes a higher-quality build of the Galaxy Note 5, describing it as a "more humane device" for its lighter shape with a thin bezel compared to the Galaxy Note 4, along with the look, performance, and S features Added pen. However, the Galaxy Note 5 has been chosen because it does not offer removable batteries, expandable storage, or 128 GB models, considering this omission is inappropriate for devices in series that "do not make sense for power users." The device is also described as a result of Samsung "refraining" again, after dropping the "old, unfettered completeness of the old Notes" that supports the development of "consumer friendly" devices with only a slight increase over S6. Techradar share the same level of positivity towards the Galaxy Note 5, noting that "Samsung's sacrifice required to achieve the premium 5 Note design has shut down some old users.Happily, there's more to love about this phone upgrade than not like. "

Upon release, it was found that inserting a pen into the 5th Note storage slot backwards may cause layer damage to the spring mechanism, make the stylus caught, or damage the sensors that it detects when S Pen is removed; all these scenarios make the stylus unusable. Samsung is aware of this issue and states that it has provided a warning against pen insertion in the Galaxy Note 5 manual, but it puts a more prominent warning label on the device itself on subsequent shipments. In January 2016, it was reported that the mechanism design was revised to allow for the safe expenditure of pens accidentally put back, without causing damage to the sensor.

Sales

In the first three days of sales, more than 75,000 units of Note 5 (along with S6 Edge) were sold in South Korea, exceeding the previous year's model sales levels. A study by AnTuTu details that this smartphone is one of the most popular Android devices in the first half of 2016.
