An appraiser (from Latin appretiare , "to value"), is the person who determines the fair market value of the property, real or personal. In the UK, the appraiser business is usually combined with an auctioneer, while the word itself has a similar meaning to the "appraiser".

Usage

In the United States, the most common use is related to the assessment of real estate and private property, while the term is often used to describe someone specifically appointed by a judicial or quasi-judicial authority to provide an assessment of the property, for example on the inventory of the Tangible Property of a Plantation (IRS legislation) of a deceased person or on land taken for public benefit by a leading domain right. Appraisers of imported goods and general appraisal boards have extensive functions in regulating customs laws of the United States. Valuers of merchants are sometimes designated temporarily under the income law to assess where no resident appraisers are without holding the appellant's office (US Pending Stats Ã,§ 2609).
