An interlock is a feature that makes the state of two mechanisms or functions interdependent. This can be used to prevent unwanted conditions in state-constrained machines, and may consist of electrical, electronic or mechanical devices or systems. In most applications, interlocks are used to help prevent machines damaging the operator or self-destruct by preventing one element from changing status due to the state of another element, and vice versa. The elevators are equipped with an interlock that prevents the elevator from moving its doors open, and prevents the stationary elevators (with open doors) from moving. Although both are stupid proof strategies, an interlock should not be confused with a simple security switch. For example, in a typical household microwave oven, a switch that disables magnetrons if the door is opened is not a key. Instead, it will be considered interlock if the door is locked while the magnetron is on, and the magnetron is prevented from operating when the door is open. Interlock can include sophisticated elements such as infrared beam curtains, photodetectors, computers containing interlocking computer programs, digital or analogue electronics, or simple switches and keys.

Locked unlocked lock

Interlocking a trapped key is a method of ensuring security in an industrial environment by forcing operators through a predetermined sequence using specified key, key, and switch selection.

This is called "Trapped Key" because it works by releasing and trapping keys in a predetermined order. Once the control or power has been isolated, a lock is released which can be used to provide access to individual or double doors.

For example, to prevent access to the inside of the electric furnace, a trapped lock system can be used to lock the breaker and kiln switch. When the switch is turned on, the key is held by an interlock attached to the breaker switch. To open the kiln door, the first switch is opened, which releases the key. The lock can then be used to unlock the kiln door. While the key is removed from the interlock switch, a plunger of the interlock mechanically prevents the switch from closing. Power can not be applied back to the kiln until the kiln door is locked, release the lock, and the key is then returned to the breaker switch. A similar two-piece interlock system can be used wherever necessary to ensure the energy supply to the engine is disconnected before the engine is inserted for adjustment or maintenance.

Microprocessor

In microprocessor architectures, interlocks are hardware that blocks the pipeline (insert bubbles) when danger is detected until danger is cleared. One example of a hazard is if a software program loads data from the system bus and calls for the use of that data in the following cycle in a system where the load takes several cycles (a loading-to-use hazard).

Mechanical

Interlocks can be very mechanical, as in one form of internal firearm safety, which blocks movement trigger, burn and/or firing pin unless the breech is sealed properly & amp; locked.

In the operation of a device such as a press or hand-wound cutter or a hand-discharged workpiece, the use of two keys to move the device, one for each hand, greatly reduces the likelihood of operations that endanger the operator. No such system is highly unproven, and such systems are often supplemented by the use of cable gloves worn by operators; this is pulled away from the danger area by stroke machine. A major problem in carrier safety techniques is the operator's tendency to ignore safety precautions or even to directly disable forced interlocks due to work pressure and other factors. Therefore, such security requires and may have to facilitate operator cooperation.

Electricity

Many people use generators to add power to a home or business if the main electricity (city) is offline. To safely transfer resources from the generator (and back to main), interlock security is often used. Interlock consists of one or more switches that prevent both primary power and generator power from turning on the residence simultaneously. Without this safeguard, both simultaneous resources can cause overload conditions, or generator backlight in the main part can cause dangerous voltage to reach the axle fixing the main feed away outside the building. An interlock device is designed to allow the generator to provide backup power in such a way that (a) prevents primary power and generator from being connected at the same time, and (b) allows the circuit breaker to operate normally without interruption in the event. any overload condition. Most interlock devices for electrical systems use mechanical devices to manage circuit breaker movements. Some also allow the use of a padlock to prevent someone accidentally activating the primary power system without authorization.
