LG G Flex 2 is an Android phablet developed and manufactured by LG Electronics. First launched by the company on January 5, 2015, this is a replacement for the original LG G Flex released in 2013. The G Flex 2 design resembles the LG G3, and as it was originally, distinguished mainly by its curved body. and flexible display. LG announced several changes from the original G Flex design, including a smaller screen and higher resolution; reduce body curvature; a stronger, chemically treated glass screen; and new iterations of the original "self-healing" back cover that can improve light abrasion faster.

It was inaugurated on January 5, 2015 at the Consumer Electronics Show, and released in South Korea in late January 2015.

History and development

The original LG G Flex, released in 2013 as LG's first smartphone with a flexible display and a curved chassis, was greeted with mixed acceptance, with critics equating this device with proof of concept rather than mainstream products. Although the device is praised for its durability and overall performance, the G Flex screen is criticized for having a bleeding edge quality, with 720p panels of only 245 pixels per inch (compared to 1080p screens used by other high-end phones), rugged appearance, and real image retention. G Flex also highlights because of its large size, high price, and due to lack of functionality that is specifically meant to take advantage of the device's curved screen.

LG intended G Flex 2 to overcome the criticism surrounding the original G Flex: the device was given a more compact design with a softer curve to improve ergonomics and appearance, and a higher 1080p screen quality. Work is done to make G Flex 2 more shock-resistant: its elasticity evenly distributes shocks from impact in the chassis. Designer LG Ramchan Woo demonstrates how the device can withstand certain types of abuse without major damage, such as dropped, trampled, and occupied. To further enhance the durability of the Gorilla Glass 3 device screen, the glass also goes through a process of chemical treatment developed by LG known as "Dura-Guard". LG claims that this treatment will increase screen resistance by about 20%, especially near the edge of the screen. Like the original Flex G, it will be positioned as a niche product aimed at the premium market.

Specifications

The G Flex 2 physical design resembles the LG G3, which consists of a curved polycarbonate shell, with volume and power buttons located on the back of the device directly below the camera. This device is available when launched in red and silver schemes. The G Flex 2 display curvature remains 700 millimeters (28 inches), but the curvature of the rest of the body is reduced to 650 millimeters (26 inches) to create a finer curvature in shape than the original. The back cover of G Flex 2 has a "self-healing" layer that can repair small scratches and lashes made for it; an updated version is able to fix itself faster than the original, taking only about 10 seconds rather than in minutes. Unlike the 6-inch screen, 720p from the original, the flexible OLED display is reduced to 5.5 inches in size, but upgraded to 1080p resolution. G Flex 2 uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chip system with LPDDR4 2 or 3 GB RAM.

The rest of the specification is similar to G3, with 16 or 32 GB of expandable storage, 3,000 mAh (though non-removable) battery, and a 13 megapixel camera with autofocus hybrid. The G Flex 2 runs Android 5.0 "Lollipop" with leather and custom software similar to G3. The new "At-a-Glance" feature allows users to see notifications when the screen is off by dragging down.
