Story

Mingchao is an orphaned Chinese girl living in an alternate version of West America. When his grandfather dies, he inherits Eto's weapon, a strange-looking weapon that at first looks damaged. On the way home one day, he found an unconscious priest in the desert, so he decided to save him. The priest introduced himself as Baskerville, and he became intrigued with his weapon. When he tried to hand it to him to let him see it, the gun fell into his rabbit soup. At that time they were confronted by bandits who threatened to kill them, but Mingchao used Eto pistol to shoot him, unaware that the gun was working. Baskerville noticed how bullets jumped around like rabbits before hitting bandits, and was convinced this weapon was something special.

So start a journey that reveals many of the mysteries of Eto's weapons, weapons that use the "essence" of twelve Chinese zodiac beasts to fire bullets. The bullet mimics the behavior of every animal, making Eto fired the most powerful weapon in the West. It did not take long to catch the attention of bandits and criminals, and especially Sindikat, the underground organization that deals with narcotics. When Mingchao learns more about Eto pistols, it becomes clear that this family heirloom has a dark history, so he travels across the country to discover the truth behind his creation. Along the way, he and Baskerville were friends with a fanatic weapons collector, two Native Americans, and the enemy turned into an ally. Their path is paved with adventure, heartache and betrayal, and the joy of friendship. In the end, Mingchao had to make a difficult choice: Protect his new friends, or protect what he thought was lost - the last member of his surviving family.

Character

Mingchao

Mingchao ( ????? , Minchao ) is an ambitious girl who dreams of becoming a famous superstar in Hollywood. His grandfather creates a mysterious Eto gun, which he can burn with the XII number that has been stamped in his palm by accident when he is younger. Mingchao has a good personality, carefree, and can show great courage when his friends are in danger. He is also very fortunate where Benkate has dubbed him as having "Devil's Luck" because of his ability to narrowly avoid death or injury. He refuses to kill someone, and often stops others killing their enemies, no matter how bad they are. It stems from his belief that it is sad every time someone dies, and that killing someone will make it as bad as the murderous asshole he scowls. He is very forgiving, even allowing Alternate, a former enemy, to join the group. His attitude makes him popular with others, and he builds friendships easily, even with people who do not like him at first. He shares a special bond with Baskerville (or, when he calls him, "Mr. Priest"), and cares deeply about him. He is the most heartbroken when everyone thinks he has died, even when he knows he may have used him. When found he is alive, but has amnesia and works for Blush, he is the only one who has confidence that he will regain his memory. He never hesitated in his belief that he was a good man, even when others, and even Baskerville himself, did not believe so. She is very excited when she shows the first signs of remembering her that she does not care that she dropped several dozen feet into a sea of storms, raging, and she cries happily when they reunite. It's implied several times that she may have romantic feelings towards her despite their obvious age difference, as shown by other characters like Benkate and Luriele. The only real indication was that he looked happiest when he was at his side.

When it became clear how much life was destroyed by the Syndicate, Mingchao and his friends began trying to find ways to stop him. But it seems that the closer they get to what the syndicates are, the more it seems that the Mingchao family is connected to it. When the gang reached Manhattan, they soon found themselves battered, wounded, and in the heart of the Syndicate, face to face with its "Gothic" leader. For Mingchao's horror, he reveals himself as his father. His father then rejoiced in his darkness, underground exploitation and how great he had gained so much strength. Mingchao, shocked that he shares this man's blood, becomes angry at his unfeeling reference to all the misery he causes. His anger and sadness was only strengthened when Gothic, finding his daughter disagreeing with him, mercilessly attacked his comrades. Desperate to stop him, Mingchao, with the help of Baskerville, shot him with a powerful Eto gun dragon bullet and he fell to his death. This makes the Gothic the first, and perhaps only, life that he volunteered to take. He must because he lost the people he cares for if he does not. At the end of the series, Mingchao went on to follow his dream to become a star, and for his great joy, Baskerville decided to join him.

Baskerville

After Mingchao rescued him from the vultures, Baskerville ( ?????? , Basukaabiru ) introduces himself as a traveling pastor. He displays a lethal prowess by throwing a knife. When it was shown that his "Bible" really carries information about Eto's weapons, it is clear that his purpose is much darker than that of a simple missionary mission. Initially he only used Mingchao to get Eto pistol, but this changed when he started to care about him. Then revealed the original name is Razy ( ???? , Reijii i >) } and he is a former member of The Syndicate , a shady organization that sells drugs and tries to collect unique weapons. The weapons they most want are Eto and Zodiac weapons. This then indicates that Baskerville lost his parents at a young age, leaving him to care for his younger sister, Chisel, whom he admired. When Chisel gets sick, he joins the Syndicate out of desperation so he can get the medicine for him. He earned a reputation as a cruel murderer who showed no mercy, even to children, all for the sake of his sister's health. However, the medicine he receives turns out to be a dangerous narcotics that if misused can decompose the body from the inside out. By the time he found out it was too late for Chisel. After Chisel's death, he took his identity as a nomad priest and began planning to find and use Eto pistols to kill the Syndicate boss and take Chisel's revenge. The cross he wore identified himself as a Syndicate member with a carving of the bridegroom in the wedding dress behind; However, he is now wearing a cross to remember Chisel, because it is a gift from him. He grew up to be devoted to Mingchao; he hates to see him wounded or cry, and he has been crying over his death. Because of his affection for him, it becomes a joke in the series. He is often accused of having a "Lolita-complex", usually by Benkate, and this issue is the subject of some omakes. Despite his criminal past, he proved to be a very caring individual. He never returned to his words once he promised something, and did not hesitate to risk his life in order to save his friends, and even people he did not know well.

After risking his life to save Mingchao and others from Gordy, he suffered a loss of memory when the Gordy gold mine collapsed on him, and was later discovered by Cavanaugh and taken by Blush. His head injury caused him to suffer severe headaches that seemed to deteriorate over time, and Blush began offering Baskerville's "cure" for his headache to get him to do his orders. Unfortunately for Baskerville, he does not remember his medicine is the same medicine that led his sister to his death. Finally, Baskerville became so dependent on addictive narcotics that he began to become a mental accident. He begins to follow even the most dangerous Blush request to get a "cure", such as taking a heated Eto gun from a burning stove. It ends with a branding of his hand, allowing him to fire a gun. When he regained his memory, he stopped experiencing headaches and stopped relying on the drug. Then he can rejoin Mingchao and others. In the last battle he was given a strong dose of opium to kill the pain of his wound so he could help Mingchao. The dose is so strong that his lifetime may be shortened. She decided to live the rest of her life traveling with Mingchao and dedicated herself to helping others whose lives had been ravaged by Syndicate.

Benkate

Benkate ( ????? , Benkeito ) is a collector of exotic weapons. She enters the series has 99 weapons in hers, with a strong desire to make Eto pistols, and then Zodiac, the 100th and 101st pistols in her collection. Many weapons are hidden, some even part of his own clothes, so he is almost never armed. His favorites include two pistol earrings, boots, a gun designed to look like a cat, a three-shot multi-directional gun, and a powerful sevenfold rifle. He crossed the street with Baskerville in the past when they searched for the same weapon, though he never noticed his real name or his relationship with the Syndicate. Apparently the conflict caused them to feel hostile towards each other, until Mingchao forced them to work together. At first sight she is a tall, thin, somewhat masculine woman with a cruel disposition that shows no mercy to whoever is between her and the gun she wants, but overtime she shows a more caring side. Like Baskerville, he began to care about Mingchao as he learned the qualities of a more charming and adorable girl. His relationship with Baskerville also softened, with the two of them ending up talking like old friends who like to interfere with each other but at the same time respect each other. Despite their own, they work well together, and Benkate likes to tease with Baskerville and tease him. He is often paired with Yaghi when the group split up and has protected him on many occasions.

He made an appointment with Mingchao to never kill again after Mingchao saved his life. She started in the series having long, bushy hair tied with a ponytail, but when she was captured and taken hostage, her hair was hacked by Cavanaugh. Benkate then expresses his annoyance with his new shorter haircut, though grateful that he and everyone are still alive. After the series ends, he loses his passion for Eto and Zodiac weapons, and instead goes in search of another weapon that may be worthy of holding 100th place in his collection.

Fino

Fino ( ??? , Fino ) is a teen an Indigenous American girl who uses a Zodiac pistol, which uses the essence of Constellation. At first he did not trust Mingchao or the others, but later accepted them as friends. It then reveals that his disbelief in the whites comes from when he meets Blush as a child. His men find Blush in bad shape and Fino helps to keep her healthy. He is kind to him and his people and learns about their ways. But when Fino's parents refused to talk about the tribal sacred treasure, Blush went on to kill them with cold blood with his weapon, leaving two orphans. After that, he becomes bitter and develops hatred against guns and white men, thinking that there is nothing to be trusted except his own people. Since then he wants to take revenge against Blush for deceiving and destroying his family. He is the most cautious of the group and has a hard time trusting others. He is also a vegetarian.

He has opposed Alternate to join the team because he is so easily deceived by Blush. Not until he saved him and the others from the monopoly gang that he finally accepted. He saved him again from Cavanaugh, taking a direct blow from Eto gun in the process. At one point, she made her an Indian-style outfit after her shirt was destroyed. He and Alternate both share a common goal to bring Blush to justice. After the Syndicate was dissolved, he decided to travel with Alternate to track Blush.

Yaghi

Yaghi ( , Yagi ) is Fino that younger brother. She is more trusting and kinder than her sister. He is very adventurous and very concerned with his sister. After Benkate saved his life, he started wandering more and looking at him, and he was in turn seen for him. Omake who was pulled by one of Nakazaki's assistants indicated that Yaghi dreamed of one day making Benkate his wife, though he was afraid his sister would not approve. Yaghi is very talkative and friendly to others, which makes him likeable to others. However, he was sometimes overconfident, because once he let Zodiac be taken away while his sister was taking a bath. Yaghi is also very brave for his age and willing to do anything for the person he cares for, though this causes concern for Fino because it makes him at risk of getting hurt. A testament to his bravery is how he is willing to stay behind with Benkate to help him detain a group of hooligans to let Mingchao and others escape, regardless of the dangers it inflicts. At the end of the series he went with Fino and Alternate to return to his village.

Alternate

Alternative ( ?????? , Orutan? to ) is the first repeating antagonist, who later becomes a hero. He is intelligent and a good gunman, and is identified by the lens glasses he wears above his left eye. He wanted to get the Eto gun, and made some unsuccessful attempts to do so. His father, Gordy, a member of the Syndicate, was betrayed and killed by fellow Blush members. Blush then told Alternate that Mingchao had done it. He becomes obsessed with revenge and tricked into obeying Blush. After learning Blush is a true killer, Alternate helps others in saving Mingchao from Blush. Since then he has vowed to seek and punish Blush for what he did. When he wanted to join the others, all seemed to oppose the idea except for Mingchao. After rescuing Fino, Yaghi, and Big, others accept him as well.

Alternate has a very quiet life, because he is almost the opposite of Mingchao. He will lie, cheat, and hurt people to get what he wants. Because of this, he never had a friend. However, like many other characters, he began to change under the influence of Mingchao, and his real personality finally came out. He's a bit unsafe, partly because of the guilt and distrust that he'll be forgiven for all the problems he causes. But he has been brave enough to face danger, willing to risk his life to defend his friends. He saved Fino's life twice, once taking a bullet in the chest from an Eto gun for him. He seems to reply to this feeling at least in part, when he makes it into new clothes after the old one is broken. He also expressed concern after he was injured saving him. He went with Fino and Yaghi when the gang parted at the end.

Blush

Blush ( ????? , Burasshu ) is a member of Syndicate. He is cunning, manipulative, and cruel. He killed Fino's parents as well as Gordy, Alternate's father, and deceived Alternate by thinking that Mingchao had done it. He uses both Alternate and Baskerville to try to get his way, but ultimately it does not work because he is then tricked by Cavanaugh. He hates Cavanaugh even though he becomes his boss in Syndicate. He claims he took credit for one of his reports and stole his bonus. After he deceives him, he tries to lower it, even when it means helping Mingchao briefly. He is famous for his ability to fire up to twelve bullets at once with his two weapons.

Blush disappeared after Cavanaugh's attack on board to New York. At the end of the story, omake by one of Nakazaki's assistants jokes that Blush was killed by a giant energy wave created by Eto gun dragon bullets.

Art concept shows the female version of Blush, because Tow Nakazaki is not sure if he wants Blush to be a man or a woman. He finally chose the male character.

Cavanaugh P. Script

Cavanaugh ( ????? , Kaban? ) is a high member of Syndicate and is considered one of the most feared and cruel of them all. He at first appeared to be an authoritative figure with the ability to hold firm hands over his friends, but he was sadistic, calculating, and controlling. She becomes increasingly sociopathic and violent as the story progresses, and her obsession with killing Mingchao and her friends increases. He had found Baskerville after losing his memory. After Blush takes him and he finds Baskerville able to fire Eto pistol, he tries to bring it to his side. He uses a concentrated form of powerful medicine to convince Baskerville to make his bid, even though he defected after his memory returned. He lost his right eye in a train accident due to a gunfight between himself, Baskerville, and Mingchao's friends. After the injury, he vows revenge on them because of the scars on his face. He branded XII into his palm so he could use Eto gun, though the brand was later destroyed when his hand was injured by a shot from a Zodiac pistol. He was killed after falling from a high ladder in battle with Mingchao and his friends.

Gothic

Gothic is the boss of Syndicate and Mingchao's father. He wanted to rule the entire United States to take revenge for the death of his wife, Mingchao's mother, who died because he could not get proper medical care as a Chinese immigrant in America. He whitened his hair, damaged his vocal cords to change his voice, and put on a mask to disguise that he was actually a Chinese. Mingchao states that neither he nor he should be there, and he is the first and perhaps the only life he takes, if only to stop the misery that he causes on others. He was eventually killed by Eto gun dragon bullets.

Eto Gun and Zodiac

Bullet Hypothesis

Fans wrote to Tow Nakazaki coming up with ideas for other bullets, like firing two different bullets to create a combined bullet. For example, Pegasus bullets can be made using bullets of birds and horses, and Virgo with snake bullets will create mermaid bullets. Snake bullet is also a popular discussion, with the idea of combining Eto gun snake with Zodiac snake (Ophiuchus, which is not included in its repertoire). These are some ideas presented by fans.

One of Nakazaki's assistants is expecting a cat bullet to be included.
